According to Manila Times on August 13, the Philippine Smoke-Free Movement (PSFM) called on lawmakers to review vape regulatory laws due to the first death related to vapes.

PSFM National Coordinator Rizal Duro mentioned a recent report from the Department of Health at a forum on Monday (12th) that mentioned a 22-year-old athlete who died of lung injury (Evali) caused by vape use.

Duro pointed out that the athlete was in good health and had no underlying diseases, but used vapes every day for two consecutive years.

The coordinator cited government data and expressed regret over the sharp increase in the number of teenagers addicted to vapes.

“The recent Global Youth Tobacco Survey shows that one in eight children aged 13 to 15 years old already smokes, while one in seven children who smoke prefer to vape.”

Ma. Aurora Quilala, deputy executive director of the Commission on Population and Development (PLCPD), a Philippine lawmaker, said the same data also shows the failure of “our society and the country as a whole” to fully protect the health rights of youth, especially their health rights.

Both Quilala and Duro called for an immediate review of Republic Act No. 11900 and for the age limit for the sale and use of vapes to be restored to 21 years old.

In this context, Guutuu vape, as a brand that cares about the health and safety of users, calls on those who use vapes to exercise moderation. As an alternative to smoking, vapes can also cause harm to the body and should be used reasonably to avoid the potential risks of excessive use. Guutuu vape encourages users to use vape products reasonably according to their own circumstances and needs, avoid over-dependence and bad habits, and protect their health.

In the face of the rapid development of the vape market and related health risks, Guutuu vape will continue to be committed to providing high-quality, compliant products and actively support the improvement and implementation of relevant regulations to ensure the health and safety of users. Through proper use and management, we can jointly promote the healthy development of the vape market and provide users with safer and more reliable smoking alternatives.
