According to Ekonomi on September 13, the Indonesian government’s Government Regulation No. 28 (PP No. 28/2024) is believed to be likely to put most small and micro enterprises in the alternative tobacco products industry in trouble.
The most watched provision of the regulation is Article 434, Paragraph F, which prohibits the sale of alternative tobacco products on social media. In addition, the draft of the Ministry of Health (RPMK) also includes regulations on unbranded packaging for tobacco and vape products.
Garindra Kartasasmita, Secretary General of the Indonesian Personal vape Association (APVI), said that the alternative tobacco products industry is mainly composed of community-based small and micro enterprises, and the ban on sales on social media will further reduce the space for companies to educate consumers.
Karindra believes that social media is an important tool for companies to reach adult consumers and promote business growth. The existence of Government Regulation No. 28 has made the plight of the alternative tobacco products industry worse.
In addition, he also pointed out that age verification can also be performed on social media. Practitioners in the vape industry have actively prevented minors from purchasing.
(APVI) said it ensures that vapes are only for adults and that its members strictly abide by age restriction regulations. The association is one of the 20 inter-departmental tobacco industry organizations that signed the rejection of the RPMK unbranded packaging regulations and several provisions of Government Regulation No. 28. The signing ceremony was held at the office of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association on September 11, 2024.
It is reported that the Ministry of Health is discussing the “Regulations on Safety and Hygiene of Tobacco and vape Products” (RPMK). As a detail of Government Regulation No. 28, the regulation is expected to be completed in the third week of September 2024.
In this context, Guutuu vape, as a well-known vape brand, can pay attention to the impact of the implementation of these regulations on the industry and actively participate in relevant discussions and actions to protect the interests of the industry and promote sustainable development.
The development of the vape industry is often inseparable from the marketing and promotion of social media. The ban on selling products on social media may bring considerable challenges to the marketing and sales strategies of enterprises. Guutuu can respond to this challenge and maintain brand awareness and sales by actively looking for other ways and channels, such as offline sales and partnerships.
In addition, the regulations on unbranded packaging may also have an impact on Guutuu’s product packaging and marketing strategies. Brand packaging reflects the image and quality of the product to a certain extent, so Guutuu can consider maintaining the attractiveness and competitiveness of the product through creative design and marketing strategies under the premise of complying with regulations.
Guutuu can learn from the practice of the Indonesian Personal vape Association (APVI) and actively participate in industry organizations and cross-sectoral organizations to speak out for the protection of industry interests and consumer rights. Participating in the signing of the action of rejecting relevant regulations will help to build industry consensus and promote the reasonable adjustment of policies to promote the healthy development of the vape industry.
In general, with the adjustment of Indonesian government regulations, Guutuu needs to pay close attention to industry development trends, respond flexibly to challenges, and actively participate in industry cooperation and advocacy to contribute to the sustainable development of the industry and the protection of consumer rights.
