According to Talking Retail on November 6, a study commissioned by vape brand ELFBAR in May 2024 showed that the UK’s ban on disposable vapes, while implementing a flavor ban, standardized unmarked packaging and a ban on retail displays, could have serious consequences.
The survey involved 6,000 adults, and the results showed that 58% (more than 3 million) of smokers and recent smokers who are quitting smoking through vapes (quit smoking for less than five years) are at risk of smoking more, re-smoking or turning to illegal vapes.
ELFBAR believes that the government must carefully weigh the overwhelming evidence that vapes are an effective tool and recognized method to help smokers overcome nicotine addiction.
Given that the disposable vape ban affects more than 60% of the UK vape market, ELFBAR said it is necessary to evaluate the impact of this measure on the advancement of national health goals.

“The impact assessment of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) pointed out that three out of ten current vape users may resume or return to smoking as a result of the ban. Officials warned that increased smoking could lead to significant health adverse effects and seriously jeopardize the government’s smoke-free goals. Therefore, we urge the government to carefully evaluate the evidence before considering further restrictions on vapes, especially on the issue of flavors, which is crucial for adult smokers and has been confirmed by multiple independent studies.”
