The most watched provision of the regulation is Article 434, Paragraph F, which prohibits the sale of alternative tobacco products on social media. In addition, the draft of the Ministry of Health (RPMK) also includes regulations on unbranded packaging for tobacco and vape products.

Garindra Kartasasmita, Secretary General of the Indonesian Personal vape Association (APVI), said that the alternative tobacco products industry is mainly composed of community-based small and micro enterprises, and the ban on sales on social media will further reduce the space for companies to educate consumers.

Karindra believes that social media is an important tool for companies to reach adult consumers and promote business growth. The existence of Government Regulation No. 28 has made the plight of the alternative tobacco products industry worse.

The association is one of the 20 inter-departmental tobacco industry organizations that signed the rejection of the RPMK unbranded packaging regulations and several provisions of Government Regulation No. 28. The signing ceremony was held at the office of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association on September 11, 2024.

It is reported that the Ministry of Health is discussing the “Regulations on Safety and Hygiene of Tobacco and vape Products” (RPMK). As a detail of Government Regulation No. 28, the regulation is expected to be completed in the third week of September 2024.
